Yesterday was the unveiling of an amazing portrait of Chicago's own, former President, Barack Obama. This artwork was created by Kehinde Wiley and as of today February 13th it will be on displayed in the Smithsonian's Institution. The former first lady, Michelle Obama, was also painted. Her portrait was by Amy Sherald. The National Portrait Gallery collection isn't old. It was created by an Act of Congress in 1962 and opened to the public in 1968. The Obama unveiling is billed as part of its 50th birthday celebrations.
