  • Did you know the first ferris wheel EVER was built in Chicago for the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition? In 2015 Chicago begin to replace the 15-story ferris wheel at Navy Pier that was modeled after the original. Today we have a bigger new improved ferris wheel called the Centennial Wheel. The name Centennial was given to to pay homage to the 100th year anniversary of Lake Michigan's landmark. This new wheel reaches soaring heights of nearly 200 feet, along with 360 degree views of Chicago's city and lake. Many of us see the ferris wheel from LSD (Lake Shore Drive) all the time and have no idea how much it's a treasured piece of Chicago's skyline and history.
