Chicago’s F. Stokes Hits the Scene

Chicago native F. Stokes hit the scene and his popularity is spreading like wildfire.  His new, inventive, conscious style of hip hop is refreshing and inspiring.  We are excited to share his work with you all, as we think he is a real, true reflection of Chicago.  Agree with his points or not, he stays true to his beliefs and that is admirable no matter what way you look at it.  Check him out!   Follow him on Twitter: @FdotStokes

Ants Marching at Wrigley

Just when the season will be wrapping up for our Cubbies, Wrigley found a way to house backwards baseball cap wearing, cargo short equipped “broskis” for 2 more nights!  Unless you’re still holding a grudge against Dave Matthews Band for ‘accidentally’ releasing bodily waste in our river years ago, you’ve already bought your tickets.  DMB has been relentlessly touring for almost 2 decades now, but they have finally brought their amazing talent to a venue that will allow their eclectic sound to echo through our north side streets!  With the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre and Alpine Valley holding 10’s of thousands, DMB hasn’t played this small of Chicagoland area venue since he played the Aragon back in ’95!  So get ready for Wrigleyville to become a multi-block fraternity party and check out this once in a lifetime concert September 17-18!

More Than Meets The Eye

By now you have probably realized that most of our Magnificent Mile looks as if the Armageddon is upon us, but no need to fear…  the Autobots are here.  Even though most of the streets are completely shut down and probably will be until August 23, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee seem to be causing quite the crowds.  So many on-lookers that Michael Bay (director) overheard another director complain that nobody will even go see the movie in theatres!  Bay seems to be quite the comedian when talking with Mayor Daley saying, “I told him, ‘Remember how I told you I was going to make your city beautiful? Well, I kind of lied,’ but it will look beautiful in the movie. It’s in the third act.”  For a set that was built to resemble a “dilapidated nuclear reactor,” I for one am kind of excited to see what they show (and blow up) of our amazing skyline.  We might have to wait another 2 years for the release but I for one have chosen my side, so who will you? Autobots or Decepticons

The Responsive Mind

September 20 – November 30, 2010

Madron Art Gallery

1000 W North Ave, Chicago, IL, 60642

Located in the south tip of Lincoln Park lies a cutting edge gallery which seems to attract all levels of patrons with their easy going approach to art viewing.  All 3 owners, including their director, have roots in Chicago’s deep artistic influence in the modern art scene.  Something that attracted us to them is their constant outreach to find exhibits that will make you utilize your mind as well as your eyes.  Including in this is their “The Responsive Mind” exhibit which will emphasize on optical illusions in the paintings and murals presented.  From movies to fashion, art objects to furniture, images of undulating lines, floating objects and vibrating color became ubiquitous in pop culture.

In Lou We Trust

Lou Piniella, Chicago Cubs manager, announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season.  Closing his career including 18 years as a player and 22 as a manager, Piniella is retiring as the 14th most winning manager in major league history.  A right-handed outfielder, Piniella was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1969 after batting .282, 11 home runs and 68 RBIs with the Royals. He was traded to the Yankees in 1973 and ended his playing career with New York in 1984.  Last season and this season have not been as good for Piniella and the Cubs. Through Monday, the team was 10 1/2 games out of first place in the NL Central.  Lou will be missed by true Cubs fans everywhere.
