More Than Meets The Eye

By now you have probably realized that most of our Magnificent Mile looks as if the Armageddon is upon us, but no need to fear…  the Autobots are here.  Even though most of the streets are completely shut down and probably will be until August 23, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee seem to be causing quite the crowds.  So many on-lookers that Michael Bay (director) overheard another director complain that nobody will even go see the movie in theatres!  Bay seems to be quite the comedian when talking with Mayor Daley saying, “I told him, ‘Remember how I told you I was going to make your city beautiful? Well, I kind of lied,’ but it will look beautiful in the movie. It’s in the third act.”  For a set that was built to resemble a “dilapidated nuclear reactor,” I for one am kind of excited to see what they show (and blow up) of our amazing skyline.  We might have to wait another 2 years for the release but I for one have chosen my side, so who will you? Autobots or Decepticons

Learn to Share the Road

Ever notice on the last Friday of every month traffic in the loop seems a little bit more congested?  It could have something to do with the hundreds of bikers that are utilizing their constitutional right to flood our streets starting from the Daley Plaza at 5:30pm.  Even though they screw up the traffic patterns and avoid all street lights, you can’t help but wonder what the other side of the fence looks like…  NOW REMEMBER to mark the date LAST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH and join the masses as they trek through our gorgeous city on a 12-16 mile joy ride!  Keep off LSD and expressways since the CPD doesn’t take kindly to your Schwinn merging onto 90/94.

Summer in Chicago pretty much guarantees that you will venture out to more than one street festival and this one will not disappoint!  Located at Madison & Des Plaines (West Loop) puts you flush against the Madison St. Bridge and also right in front of a main stage where such musical acts Bare Naked Ladies, Kris Allen (American Idol), and Spoon will make you forget about how hot it actually is out there! If the music doesn’t wet your appetite check out the various food vendors and celebrity bartenders serving up beer and wine until 10:30pm both nights!

Green Roofs

Chicago is a front runner in the movement to increase the Green Roofs throughout the country.  Green roofs are created when vegetation is planted on the top of buildings in order to make the city cleaner and greener.  Green roofs clean and retain rain water, reduce the ‘urban heat island effect’, they lower air temperature, improve air quality and it extends the life of the roof membrane.  Many prominent Chicago buildings, such as City Hall, have already caught on to this win, win option.

Chicago Violence

- 250 people killed in chicago since the January 2010.

- In CHICAGO Summer months have significantly higher murder rates, and over 70% of murders take place between 7PM and 5AM.

With the holiday weekend coming up, I wanted to take a second to remind everyone that this astonishing violence in the streets of Chicago is senseless and devastating.  No disagreement is worth taking some one’s life.  We all have mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and/or friends that would be devastated by the loss, and so do your worst enemies.  Unfortunately the summer heat paired with children and teens not being occupied in the summer, along with the holiday usually increases the rate of violence in the city.  Let’s all be very aware, make good choices and have a voice in our communities.  We need to take our city back one block at a time.  Start with yours.

Why is Obama so cool you ask? Wap!!!

You have to love how our president Mr. Obama kept it real and called Clark Kellogg out saying  he  missed a few on purpose in this game of pig. He put Kellogg on the spot with that one. And Barack Obama ended the game with WAP!!!

Chicago Shootings

As the weather warms up, the number of shootings in the city skyrocket.  Last Wednesday through Saturday alone, there were over 40 shootings and 5 people dead.  Why is this?  Why is the weather so strongly correlated to the number of shootings in our city?  And more importantly, how do we put a stop to this?  Too many innocent lives are taken every week in our city due to trivial nonsense. South Loops Icon Theater

I had the pleasure of visiting this cool addition to the South Loop, Icon Theater. This video does a great job at exploring the theater showing you the ins and outs. At first I thought the $5 VIP upgrade was a lot but it was completely worth.  I give it to thumbs up!
